The ship of ships consists of DIMARINE
She comes, essentially, from Dillingen and Dunkirk: the Queen Mary 2, the largest, most luxurious and most expensive cruise ship of all time. Because: a ship consists predominantly of steel, and two-thirds of the steel for the Queen Mary 2 were supplied by Dillinger: 21,000 tonnes of heavy plate. It goes without saying that it had to be the non-plus-ultra of shipbuilding steels, with the result that the hull of the Queen Mary 2 largely consists of DIMARINE 36, Dillinger branded steel developed specifically for such applications.
This thermomechanically rolled steel is distinguished by its high mechanical strength, which makes it possible to produce the shipbuilding plate in the minimum thicknesses specified in the design, with the envisaged beneficial effects on the payload, fuel consumption and speed of a ship the size of a 21-storey tower block with a length of 345 meters. The excellent weldability of DIMARINE 36 simultaneously permitted exceptionally cost-efficient working in the shipyard's graving docks.
