Floating giants in DIMARINE
The Regina Maersk (photo) is 318 meters in length, and 43 meters in the beam, making her one of the so-called post-Panamax vessels - ships too broad in the beam for the Panama Canal, but capable of transporting incredible cargo payloads - more than 6,000 TEU . Denmark's Odense Steel shipyard has already constructed twelve such giants; Dillinger was selected as the supplier for the shipbuilding plate required, since the dimensions of these vessels necessitate even greater cost-efficiency for their construction. The material supplied was thermomechanically rolled DIMARINE shipbuilding steel, which is notable in particular for its excellent weldability using the high-speed welding processes now widely employed in shipyards.
