The production of wind energy offshore is an important factor in the extension of renewable energy worldwide.
Sophisticated installation ships are needed to set up wind-farms on the high seas. The 138.55 m long and 40.80 wide „MPI Advantage“ of MPI Offshore is such an installation ship – the biggest of it’s kind so far worldwide. The ship permits installation of the steel pylons, turbines and rotor blades extremely economically, using six extendable legs. It can transport 6000 t of freight and may carry a staff of 112 members.
From Harwich International Port the Adventure started it’s first trip to zur Phase 1 of the London Array Offshore Windfarm, which will be one of the biggest in the world.
The ship was built in Nantong/China. Dillinger delivered 3250 t of the water quenched steel DILLIMAX 690E in 100 mm plate thickness. The plates had to fulfill toughness requirements at –40 °C.
