In today’s meeting, Dillinger Hütte’s supervisory board agreed on the construction of a new secondary exhaust emission control system in the steel mill, costing 27.5 million euros.
Thanks to this investment in the environment, the requirements of the new TA Luft (German regulation covering air quality requirements) can be met and the corresponding limit values for dust (20 mg/m3) can be observed while maintaining operational safety. Within the context of this project, the converters are housed and numerous extraction points are erected in the entire steel mill for collecting the diffuse emissions. Furthermore, a central bag filter installation with fan, housing and new chimney is built. The extraction capacity amounts to 2 million m3/hour. In a first step, the works for modernising and improving the primary purification system for the converter’s emissions have already started in 2006. Thus, the already existing Venturi washing systems and the two electrical filters are completely overhauled. The new secondary installation for dust extraction, now approved by the supervisory board, is to be commissioned in autumn 2008. “This investment helps to further considerably improve the air quality and entire environmental situation at the location Dillingen”, says Dr Norbert Bannenberg, technical director of Dillinger Hütte.
