For the fifth time, Aktien-Gesellschaft der Dillinger Hüttenwerke (Dillinger) has invited experts from all over Europe to the International Steel and Offshore Wind Farms Conference – held on 12 and 13 May 2016 – where everything revolves around the use of steel for offshore wind turbines.
Steel is, after all, the primary material used in constructing offshore wind farms: modern wind turbines consist almost exclusively of steel, and without advanced steel components, their construction – especially offshore – would be all but inconceivable.
More than 60 offshore wind energy specialists accepted the invitation to Saarland, with developers, finishers, builders, wind farm operators and other experts included among them. The conference focuses on future development of the offshore wind industry: “Sharing experiences and information about modern steel developments significantly helps us implement increasingly complex offshore wind farms,” Dillinger Chief Sales Officer Dr. Günter Luxenburger said at the opening of the event.
Dillinger is one of the most important suppliers of plate for offshore wind farms. In Europe, more than 3,000 foundation constructions – foundations that are anchored in the seabed – have already been installed for offshore wind turbines. These can achieve output of around 11,000 megawatts and thus supply more than 6 million households with electricity. Most of these wind turbines are based on Dillinger steel – most recently, for instance, the “Westermost Rough,” “Gode Wind” and “EnBW Baltic 2” offshore wind farms in the North and Baltic Seas.
Innovative top-quality steel products, total orientation around our customers' needs and unceasing technological development in close cooperation with our partners form the basis of our success - as they have for more than 333 years.
