This year, yet again, another seventy-three young persons are starting working life as trainees at Europe's leading producer of heavy plate. In addition, twenty-six student interns have also been welcomed to the plant.
The new trainees, who include fourteen young women, are commencing training in a total of thirteen different trades: electronic technician for plant technology, IT specialist, plant mechanic, industrial mechanic, machinist, internal rail-transport specialist, automotive mechatronics specialist, chemical laboratory assistant, materials tester, industrial mechatronics specialist, cook, catering manager and business administrator. Counting all recent intake years, Dillinger Hütte currently employs a total of 269 trainees and seventy-eight interns. To these must be added seventeen students performing their "co-operation phase" in the company (jointly with the Saarland University of Applied Sciences, Saarbrücken and the University of the Saarland), and thus obtaining their initial insights into business practice. "With its excellent initial training, Dillinger Hütte is assuring the future supply of trained personnel, particularly in view of the continuing demographic trend", affirmed Dillinger Hütte Executive Officer Human Resources, Peter Schweda, in his speech of welcome. "Steel today is high-tech, and our qualified future employees and their know-how are an important factor in assuring the company's success and competitiveness", he stated, addressing the new faces. "This is why we invest not only in innovation and in the modernisation of our facilities and processes, but also in you. Dedicated trainers and moderns training facilities are your guarantee of a qualified, well founded and future-orientated training - with excellent prospects within the company. We, for our part, also expect certain things from you: reliability, commitment, and maximum effort". Thirty-eight of a total of eighty-seven candidates this year proved with bravura that they possess these qualities, by taking their final skilled worker exam six months early - another indication of the high quality of training at Dillinger Hütte. And yet another pleasing innovation was announced at the greeting ceremony for the trainees and interns: a new training building for metalworkers and, in particular, for training in the qualified trades of plant mechanic and welder, is currently under construction. The ceremony, at which members of the workers' council, the young people's and trainees' representatives, and the Human Resources department welcomed the new arrivals and wished them a good start to their working lives, was rounded off by breakfast together, and the traditional group photo. The trainees had previously had the opportunity of getting acquainted in a series of introductory events, and received their initial "kit" for their training and working lives, in the form of important information on, for example, occupational health and safety. Also awaiting them, in October, is the tried and proven "Plant Rally", during which the young people's and trainees' representatives visit the production and maintenance shops together with the trainers and the trainees and are able to ask the people in charge their questions on operating procedures and on the production process
Innovative top-quality steel products, total orientation around our customers' needs and unceasing technological development in close cooperation with our partners form the basis of our success - as they have for more than 333 years.
