With the successful installation last week of the “topside“ modules, construction of the Clair Ridge project off the coast of the Shetland Islands moved a major step forward.
The topside is the visible, top half of an offshore platform, upon which the equipment, machines and crew are located. It is supported by lattice-like foundation structures called “jackets”. All of the heavy plate steel required for both the jackets (39,200 tons) and topside modules (20,800 tons) is being supplied by Dillinger Hütte and its subsidiary Dillinger France in Dunkirk.

The Clair Ridge project is part of the Clair oilfield in the North Sea, for which Dillinger Hütte has already delivered 22,000 tons for installation of the first platform in 2004. Construction of the second phase was then launched in 2011, 75 kilometers west of the Shetland Islands. Plans call for this platform to be put into operation in 2017.
Innovative top-quality steel products, total orientation around our customers' needs and unceasing technological development in close cooperation with our partners form the basis of our success - as they have for more than 333 years.
