Bridge made from Dillinger steel honored with the 2017 German Steel Construction Engineering Prize
Dillinger steel will play a role when the 2017 German Steel Construction Engineering Prize is presented during the BAU trade fair in Munich this Tuesday, 17 January: The prize for bridge construction is being awarded to the Allerbrücke bridge, built with heavy plate from Dillinger – adding yet another prize to the long list of honors presented to projects made from Dillinger steel.
The railway bridge over the Aller river near Verden, Germany was recognized with the prize because of its design quality, innovation and high acceptance by the public. “In addition to the quick progress of the construction, the high production and assembly quality speaks for the efficiency of the steel bridge construction,” the members of the bauforumstahl jury panel said in their explanatory statement.
The 375-meter-long bridge replaces the existing bridge over the Aller that is part of the DB railroad line from Wunsdorf to Bremerhaven. The slender trough bridge is notable for its construction, which employs select materials and blends harmoniously with the surrounding flatlands along the Aller river. The bridge was built in eight phases using the incremental launching method. Dillinger delivered around 700 tons of steel, including higher-strength high-quality steel, for the prize-winning bridge.
The German Steel Construction Engineering Prize was presented for the third time this year by bauforumstahl, together with the German Federal Chamber of Engineers, on the occasion of the BAU trade fair. Another project containing Dillinger steel, the Sundsvall Bridge in Sweden, was also among the winners at the previous awarding of the Engineering Prize.
From the German Steel Construction Engineering Prize, the European Steel Prize, the European Steel Design Award or the Prix Grand Public from the Architectures Contemporaines de la Métropole Parisienne, the list of award-winning projects for which Dillinger has supplied steel – including the exhibition halls and car park in Stuttgart, the Gustave Flaubert vertical-lift bridge in Rouen, the Simone de Beauvoir pedestrian bridge in Paris, the Stade Pierre Mauroy stadium in Lille and the Lochkov Valley bridge near Prague – is truly quite remarkable.
Innovative top-quality steel products, total orientation around our customers' needs and unceasing technological development in close cooperation with our partners form the basis of our success - as they have for more than 333 years.
